2016 Free From Awards at the Mansion House

An established event in the UK, the FreeFrom Food Awards have arrived in Ireland with the very first winners just announced at a recent black tie gala dinner at the Round Room in the Mansion House.

These awards are highly significant for Irish producers given how the recognition can lead to a wider distribution and brand awareness. The awards recognise “free-from” products across 40 categories including the much coveted “product of the year award”. There were gold, silver and bronze awards in each category. Winning makes a significant difference to producers as well as retail streams which may not have been available previously.  

The big winner on the night was Rule of Crumb for their Gluten-free salted caramel and chocolate profiteroles. The innovation Gold Award went to Foods of Athenry for their “bite box”. Product range of the year went to BFree Foods for their extensive efforts in developing the free-from range.

Awards on the night were presented by John Burke, who has been involved in the FreeFrom world as well as the Irish Quality Food Awards for a number of years. John Burke was also joined by Maria McHale, Editor of Slainte Magazine.

Over 150 members from the FreeFrom industry including a selection of retailers and producers assembled to witness Irish companies taking most of the much coveted awards on the night.
