Show Stopping Events at the Round Room

03 May, 2016

The Round Room's new lighting upgrade allows you to create a show-stopping event.

Built in 1921 to receive King George IV, the grandeur of our timeless 19th century setting combined with recent restoration and cutting edge technology guarantees a lasting impression on your delegates. As one of Ireland's few historical ballrooms still available to host your event, the Round Room at the Mansion House epitomises Irish heritage, history and elegance making it one of the most unique venues in Dublin.

With its own private Dawson Street entrance and just a stone’s throw from St Stephens Green, the Round Room offers an outstanding location for delegates to explore Dublin City Centre.

By placing the very latest state - of - the art equipment at your fingertips as a standard, you have the opportunity to convene with confidence.

One stand out feature in the historical Round Room is our Lighting Package. No matter what the theme of your event might be, our state of the art lighting and audio visual systems will perfectly set the tone for the evening.

Some benefits of our new lighting and audio visual investment includes:

  • All fixtures are remotely controlled from a lighting console on the balcony - changes can be made at the click of a button.
  • Single crew operation allows your budget to be almost entirely allocated to lighting equipment hire over labour.
  • Fully automated colour changing table spots can accommodate up to the maximum capacity of 55 tables. These spots can be re-allocated to create beam or wash effects around the room.
  • The new lighting system is designed to easily adapt to the multi-purpose use of the venue.
  • The system is also designed to maximise rehearsal time in the venue for a client and reduce the amount of technical set up time required.
  • There are a number of optional extras available, based on your requirements.
  • The majority of the lighting is LED based, reducing the carbon footprint.

We asked Mark Galione, High Res Lead Designer based in The Round Room, to tell us about the new lighting installation:

“Firstly we were delighted at the opportunity to work in such a beautiful and historic venue. When we started to design the new lighting installation we asked ourselves what should great event lighting be and what is usually the reality. We felt that each event should be unique and rigorously designed making maximum use of the available budget.  We found that in reality the majority of the time and budget was taken up in the logistics of simply transporting and rigging the equipment leaving very little time to actually design the lighting or to give clients the opportunity to rehearse. The Round Room is a very busy venue so minimising the turn round from one event to the next was critical in our thinking."

"The great advantage of the new system is that for the vast majority of events the equipment needed is already rigged and hired as necessary to meet the events needs and budget.  This means that all of the available time and budget goes on the lighting, what the audience actually sees. Working with equipment supplier Production Services Ireland we chose the lighting fixtures to be as versatile as possible.  There are now 131 intelligent fixtures that make up the house rig.  No more ladders and technicians swinging from the roof focussing as almost all the lighting is automated."

"We use all LED sources for flexibility, reliability and energy efficiency.  Even though there are now significantly more lights the carbon footprint of the new install is a third of what it was previously.  It’s the use of the best technology and the basing of the equipment in the room that has made this possible”
